hello-world

Hi, this is my first post on my new blog. I have had several blogs in the past with odd posts here and there but would never regularly post anything because I felt I didn\'t have the time to create good blog posts and so they became outdated. I ended up killing off any WordPress installations I had running and removed any content that was there. I felt WordPress was too heavyweight for my occasional blog posts and wanted something much much lighter.

A few months back, me and Steph were talking about this and it seemed we were both in the same boat. Didn\'t want the bloat that came with WordPress, wanted to blog, but wanted something small, lightweight and flexible. We decided we weren\'t happy with what was available and decided to roll our own... Chula was born.

Steph writes:

Chula is aimed at people who know enough about the web to set up a website and don\\'t need a full blown CMS. Posts are written in Markdown and functionality is purposely limited to just the basic needs. We have both talked about writing our own themes for our wordpress blogs and although this isnt hard there is a bit of learning to do first and it is just so easy to find something already made which is suitable. Chula ships with a basic example theme which is not meant to go into production but is instead a base on which you can put your mark.

Chula is only at the very first stages at the moment. Please feel free to contribute here or try it out on your own blog.

Over the past few months, I\'ve been exposed to lots of new technologies, hopefully over the next few weeks I\'ll take the time to blog about some of them to highlight how we\'ve used them and what I like and don\'t like about them. For example some topics I may cover include: Codeception; Travis CI; Silex; Twig; PHPStorm.
